Paddles Up!
August 6, 2022 8am-4pm
Port of Ridgefield Kayak Launch

Some Friendly Competition
Do you want to race a dragon boat and experience the thrill of moving a boat full of your friends down a 250-meter course to the finish line? Here’s your chance to do just that. All community teams will get one practice time to learn how to paddle a dragon boat. Seriously though, if you can paddle a canoe, you can probably learn to dragon boat. Get your team together and register today! Then show up on race day to earn some hardware (medals) and support a great organization, Camp Mariposa.

Beneficiaries
This year’s beneficiary is Camp Mariposa. Camp Mariposa is a free year-round substance use prevention and mentoring program for youth affected by the substance use disorder of a family member. Children and teens attend transformational weekend camps every other month for a year or more. Youth ages 9-12 participate in fun, traditional camp activities combined with educational and support sessions led by mental health professionals that help them build resiliency and break the cycle of addiction.

Event Schedule
Teams should arrive by 7:00 am to check-in, set-up and warm-up. Race brackets will be available closer to the festival date. Racing will go fast, so be ready! There will be a drawing for cool items, vendors, and the best racing is always at the end, so plan on staying all day! The awards ceremony will begin 30 minutes after the last race ends and the boats are put away.

Pets
Please be mindful that this event is for everyone, including pets! Pets should be on a leash, do not bring pets down by the water where people are racing, and please ensure you clean up after your pet. Let’s make sure everyone has a good time!

Parking
There is plenty of parking space at Lake River! Volunteers will direct you to the appropriate place to park in the grass. Parking is free, but donations are always welcome!
Race Location
We’re excited to partner with the city and port of Ridgefield in hosting the event at Lake River. The venue provides a wonderful large, open space, and the race course is perfect for shorter races. The city is home to the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge, fishing, boating, and numerous parks and trails. No wonder it is referred to as “your gateway to exploring nature.” We can’t think of a better place to have this event.
